Interviews and Pictures
Well, what a day we had on the air on Friday 8th May 2020 in celebration of the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe day.
We had a number of special shows which aired through out the day, culminating in a one hour special airing at 7 pm looking at Love Art and Radio Resistance, detailing the occupation of the Channel Islands during WW2.
Flashback Friday listeners were able to hear an interview with Commissioner Harry Read O.F, a D-Day veteran who recently completed a tandem parachute jump onto Normandy beach with the Red Devils.
Our V.E Day street disco got us up and bopping at 2 pm, followed closely by a Time Tunnel special with a number of songs from the era being played.
The 5 o clock show with Brian and Laura featured a range of interviews from V.E Day representatives, including the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Sarah Troughton and Rev Tim Laundon, giving their thoughts on V.E Day and it's importance, both then and now, as our celebrations take place under lock down restrictions.
If you missed these interviews, or would like to listen to them again, they are below;
Mike Giles - Mayor of Ludgershall
Sarah Troughton - Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire
Mark Connolly - Mayor of Tidworth
Reverend Tim Laundon - Rector of Ludgershall and Tidworth
Tony Pickernell - TCAP Coordinator
Andrew McCafferty - Radio Odstock presenter
Andrew Connolly - Chairman of Castledown FM
As in many other places across the country, local residents held 'virtual' street parties to celebrate the day, some photos of which are below.
For more photos from the day, you can visit our photo albums page here.
We hope everyone had a great 'virtual street party' and we are already looking forward to V.J day which will take place on Saturday 15th August, more news on that to follow...
